I'm an astronomy newbie in every sense of the word. Last night while enjoying a relaxing evening in my hot tub with my lady, I noticed an unusual phenomenon looking northward somewhere around the constellation Pegasus.

At about 11:25 pm PDT I observed what appeared to be a star of MUCH brighter than first order magnitude. It became evident and stayed intensely bright (the brightest star in the sky) for about 4 seconds; then it gradually dimmed and disappeared. I know what planes, satellites, etc. look like. This was not a plane or satellite. It was stationary.

Did anyone else out there see what I saw?
