has anyone witnessed a silver orb? i saw one streak across the sky.

On Tuesday, 1/08/08, at 5:20 am, I watched what I thought to be a bright star simply fade away in the sky. I live in New Haven, CT, USA. and at the time I've just reported, the Big Dipper was directly overhead. The "star" in question was slightly west of the BD in the morning sky. I was gazing at the BD when I couldn't help but notice this object. I started to think it might be a planet, because of its brightness, when it simply just faded into the blackness. Could I have seen a supernova, or is it something unexplainable?
